My studies at the Purcell School for Young Musicians between 2002 and 2007 was instrumental to my development and the high level teaching, together with the school’s unique ethos, have contributed inestimably to the musician I am today. Having access to such first rate teaching in an immersive environment which nurtures every other aspect of a young musician’s development is crucial and I don’t think I would have found the same balance of teaching and support elsewhere.
If it wasn’t for the funding I received, I simply wouldn’t have been able to benefit from attending the Purcell School and wouldn’t be the musician I am today.
Since graduating with First-Class Honours from the Royal College of Music in 2013 - the same year I had the honour to perform for HM the King, I have been in demand as a both a concert pianist and teacher. As a pianist, my career has brought me to much of Europe and both North and South America while my Wigmore Hall début in 2018 secured my reputation as one of today’s torchbearers of the Romantic Revival. Since 2015, I have been recording for the Dutch record label, Piano Classics, for whom I have now made fifteen CDs of music by Alkan, Blumenfeld, Chaminade, Liszt and Thalberg, all of which have garnered exceptional critical acclaim, and a nomination for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
My most important achievement to date is a gargantuan project to record the complete piano music of Alkan which will run to some 18 CDs; this project is currently nearing its half-way point and is the first of its kind in recorded music - as a result, my recordings are frequently aired on BBC Radio 3. I am also in demand as a writer, and regularly receive commissions for both musical periodicals and sleeve notes. As an editor, I have contributed to the scholarship of the editions of G. Henle Verlag and as a composer, my transcriptions of music by Alkan and Verdi have been published in Japan. As a teacher, I have had student successes in both national and international piano competitions and have taught at all levels for over 16 years. I have also sat on juries of piano competitions in both the UK and Europe.
